THE FUTURE OF FIRST AID TRAINING (UPDATE 7)

Department of Employment and Labour to Grant an Extension to Notice 1028

The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) - Chief Inspector for Occupational Health and Safety, Mr Tibor Szana, has taken our Section 40 application letter into consideration and responded to Saiosh by email, indicating “I will be extending the period until March 2021 for now”.

Mr Tibor Szana has heard what we conveyed to him in our application, which indicated our case had merit.

Please note:

This newsletter is not the official exemption; an exemption notice as per the regulations will be published by the DEL.

What does this mean for First Aid Training Providers?

“Old” DEL Approved Training Providers that were previously approved by the Department of Education and Labour, who on or before 30 April 2019 (as per Notice 1028) submitted an application of Intent to the Quality Council of Trade and Occupations (QCTO) and are busy with or have not yet completed their accreditation process with the QCTO’s designated Quality Assurance Bodies may continue providing First Aid Level 1, 2, and/ or 3 training under the DEL’s “Document C” approval until 31 March 2021.

“SETA Accredited” Training Providers that are already accredited can continue providing both First Aid Level 1, 2 and/or 3 training (if DEL approved) and Unit Standard training (as accredited).

“New” Training Providers that are not accredited and approved who wish to present First Aid Training will need to approach the QCTO and follow the laid-out accreditation processes.

Application as a Quality Assurance Partner (QAP).

The above allowed a small reprieve for Training Providers and for Saiosh to continue with its application to be recognised as a QAP by the QCTO, in terms of Revised Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF) Policy that was published, in the Government Gazette (No 43062), on the 02 March 2020. This process will continue and engagement with QCTO.

Thank you for the support and emails thus far and in closing – remain safe!
