Get your Course or Event   Verified by Saiosh

The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) has confirmed that the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Saiosh) is the recognised professional body for Occupational Health and Safety Practitioners in South Africa. Saiosh was approved by SAQA as a Professional Body for the purpose of the NQF Act, Act 67 of 2008. Saiosh has three professional registered designations:

SAQA Professional Designations:

• Technical Member - TechSaiosh
• Graduate Member - GradSaiosh
• Chartered Member - CMSaiosh

SAQA minimum underlying qualifications and experience:

• Technical - NQF 5 Certificate (10 credits) plus 2 years experience
• Graduate - NQF 6 National Diploma (360 credits) plus 3 years post graduate experience
• Chartered - OHS qualification at NQF 7 Degree plus minimum 5 years post graduate experience

The SAQA registered designations, on ascending scales, require different levels of qualification. The first level is discussed lower down. The second level requires a Diploma and the third level a Degree. These are SAQA accredited Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) qualifications and generally such levels of qualifications are already known, e.g. National Diploma in Safety Management (NADSAM) and B.Tech Degree in Safety Management.

Which courses qualify for Saiosh Course Verification:

Only courses that meet the academic criteria for the first and second level of registration, namely Technical Member (TechSaiosh) and Graduate Member (GradSaiosh) qualify for course verification. The qualification level for TechSaiosh is pitched at NQF Level 5 with 10 credits (10 day course) and for GradSaiosh it is at NQF 6 or higher. In order for training providers to gain recognition for such courses, Saiosh need to evaluate the course and verify it. 

• Persons that successfully completed a TechSaiosh verified course qualify (subject to also having 2 years practical experience) to be professionally registered by Saiosh as Technical Members (TechSaiosh).

• Persons that successfully completed a GradSaiosh verified course qualify (subject to also having 3 years post graduate practical experience) to be professionally registered by Saiosh as Graduate Members (GradSaiosh).

NOTE: Saiosh Course Verification has no bearing on SAQA, QCTO or CETA accreditation. 

Which courses and events qualify for Saiosh CPD Verification:

Shorter OHS courses that does not meet the academic requirements for Saiosh course verification e.g. 1 to 5 day courses can be verified by Saiosh for CPD and awarded with CPD points. Events such as OHS workshops, seminars, conferences and summits can also be CPD verified. 

Saiosh members that successfully completed a Saiosh CPD verified course / event can claim the number of CPD points online from their membership profile.

NOTE: Saiosh CPD Verification has no bearing on SAQA, QCTO or CETA accreditation.

Our authority:

Saiosh has been recognised by SAQA as the professional body for Occupational Health and Safety in terms of the NQF Act, Act 67 of 2008. In terms of Section 19. of the SAQA Policy and Criteria for Recognising a Professional Body, Saiosh verify learning courses for CPD. We verify training courses that meet the academic requirements for professional registration as TechSaiosh and GradSaiosh and verify short skills courses for CPD points.

How to get a course or event verified by Saiosh:

In order for Saiosh to verify a course or event we need the following:

• Course /event title,
• Modules /topics (outline only),
• Duration and
• NQF level and Unit Standard (US) number if registered or aligned with SAQA
  

The above information with a request for verification must be emailed to admin@saiosh.co.za

Verification certificates and logos:.

Once a course or event has been verified the provider will be issued with a Saiosh verification certificate as well as a Saiosh verification logo. These can be used for marketing to inform potential students /attendees that the course /event has been verified by Saiosh.

Cost:

Saiosh offer the verification service at a discounted rate of R150 excl. VAT per verification to Saiosh Corporate Members. Non Corporate Members will be charged R2500 excl. VAT per verification.

Validity period:

Verifications are linked to annual Corporate Membership and will expire on 1 March of each year. 

Use of verification logos:
