DRAFT MAJOR HAZARD INSTALLATION REGULATIONS

Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations (85/1993)

The Minister of Employment and Labour, gave notice that, he has, in terms of section 43 (1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, (No. 85 of 1993) given approval to receive public comment on the schedule of these Regulations on 15 November 2019.

Affected and interested parties or persons were invited to submit comments on the draft regulations in writing (Annexure 1) within 90 days from the date publication of the notice.

Saiosh created an online forum for Members to submit their comments on the Draft Major Hazard Installation Regulations. Saiosh also appointed a Technical Committee consisting of Exco Members of Saiosh and SAIOH to compile an official set of of comments on the Draft MHI Regulations.

The official comments as well as a letter to the Chief Inspector, highlighting issues with the Draft MHI Regulations, were sent to the Department of Employment and Labour on 3 February 2020.
