 Members are reminded that Phase 2 of the Construction Regulations 2014 implementation phases, related to the application of a Work Permit, came into effect on 7 February 2017. This means that all construction work contracts exceeding a value of R40 million will now require a Work Permit.   Application for Construction Work Permit:
 Phase 1
 
 A client who intends to have construction work carried out, must at least 30 days before that work is to be carried out apply to the provincial director in writing for a construction work permit to perform construction work if the intended construction works contract is a value exceeding R130 million or Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) 9. This will be in effect from 7 August 2015 until 6 February 2017. 
 Phase 2
 A client who intends to have construction work carried out, must at least 30 days before that work is to be carried out apply to the provincial director in writing for a construction work permit to perform construction work if the intended construction works contract is a value exceeding R40 million or Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) 8. This will be in effect from 7 February 2017 until 6 August 2018.   Phase 3
 A client who intends to have construction work carried out, must at least 30 days before that work is to be carried out apply to the provincial director in writing for a construction work permit to perform construction work if the intended construction work will -(a) exceed 365 days;
 (b) involve more than 3 600 person days of construction work ; or
 (c) the works contract is a value exceeding R13 million or Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) 7. This will come into effect from 7 August 2018.
