"Why implement a Safety Programme where there is no Legal Compliance"

The Saudi Electricity company was established in April 2000 through the union of 10 Kingdom wide independent electricity companies. The owners are the State Saudi Arabia with 74.31% and the oil producing company Saudi Aramco with 6.93%; the remaining shares are in free float.

The new organization was formed and one of the major shortcomings was that there was no safety and health system to manage the vast organization. Adding to the challenge was that there is very little safety and health legislation. Saudi Safety Legislation is slanted mainly towards security and chemical and oil industry.

In 2013 Saudi Electricity Company realized that a safety system was necessary in order manage HSE and to become a world best practices organization as well as OHSAS 18001 compliant. This valuable and highly important information will be dealt with during the Saiosh 2016 OHS Conference to be held at Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg on 24 - 25 May 2016.
