Saiosh AGM Report 2014

Saiosh President, Robin Jones, delivered the annual Saiosh report at the Institute's 3rd Annual General Meeting held on 6 November 2014 at the Master Builders Conference Centre in Durban.


Total number of Members - 3 326

SAQA Professional Registered Members - 1 987

Corporate Members - 254

Marketing and Communication:

Saiosh implemented an online membership programme with great benefits to members e.g. online registration, update profiles, upload CPD points and online newsletters. Saiosh advertised in most leading OHS magazines and journals.

Stakeholder Relationships:

Saiosh signed agreements with SACPCMP, SAPEMA and NOSA. Saiosh continued with its excellent working relationship with IOSH UK and the DoL. A number of senior officials from the DoL presented papers at the Saiosh conferences.


Free CPD Workshops:

Saiosh held regular CPD Workshops for its members. These workshops were held in areas where our members are mostly situated e.g. Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg and Durban. Quality speakers were secured to facilitate these workshops and the topics were carefully selected to ensure that members were kept up to date with the latest developments in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. Members attended for free and bookings were done via easy online registration. CPD points were instantly uploaded to members' online profiles when marked off in attendance at the workshops.

Functions and Events:

Saiosh attended a number of functions and events including the SACPCMP Council inauguration dinner where the Saiosh Voluntary Association  MOU was signed, MQA meeting where the AQP was appointed, SAQA forum meetings and the VUT to address NADSAM students.

Conferences and Exhibitions:

Saiosh co-hosted the International OHS Conference held in May 2014 at the Gallagher Convention Centre and exhibited at the OSH EXPO Africa and NOSHCON 2014 events.


Saiosh appointed PKF, one of South Africa's leading auditing firms, as it's external auditor. Mariette Schroeder, CA and Partner of PKF, read out the Institutes finances and the audit report. Quote: "In our opinion, the annual financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health as at 30 June 2014, and its financial performance and its cash flows for the year then ended in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities, and the requirements of the Companies Act of South Africa.
