Q: Is Saiosh recognised as a professional body?
A: Yes Saiosh is recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as a professional body to register Occupational Health and Safety Professionals in South Africa in terms of the NQF Act, Act 67 of 2008.

Q: Are the Saiosh membership designations recognised by SAQA?
A: Yes Saiosh has three SAQA registered designations - Technical, Graduate and Chartered Member.

Q: Do I have to write an exam before I can be registered?
A: You do not have to write an exam to be registered at Technical, and Graduate membership level. These designations are awarded based on the verification and assessment of your qualifications and experience.

Q: How do I become a Chartered Member?
A: Only Graduate Members that meet the minimum underlying qualifications and experience can apply for Chartered Membership. Depending on your portfolio of evedance you will either have to do Initial Professional Development (IPD) and or undergo an assessment. Q: Can I still become a member if I do not have the required qualifications and / or experience?
A: Saiosh has a "Member /Associate" category for those persons that do not have the required qualifications and or experience. Once you have gained the required experience and qualifications you can apply for professional registration.

Q: How can Saiosh afford to have such low membership /registration fees?
A: Saiosh is managed in such a manner that it is self funding. It also has a large number of Corporate Members which contributes to the total annual income. As a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) Saiosh receive sponsorship and grants from donors that have a vested interest in promoting Health and Safety in South Africa. Saiosh pass these financial benefits on to its members and as a result has low annual membership fees.

Q: Is my Saiosh Membership /Professional Registration internationally recognised?
A: Saiosh is recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as a professional body and use the professional OHS designations as registered by SAQA. SAQA and the NQF is recognised world wide.
